Emails problems
This section contains a troubleshooting procedure to help in solving common problems.
Activating the traces
When there is an issue with the emails, the first thing to do is to activate the debug and check the contents of the
generated log:
1. Edit the $VSIFAX/lib/vsisrv.ini file and add debug=on in the [VMAIL] section.
2. Restart the scheduler to apply the change.
3. Send a fax on the sm device (email fax) or send a fax on the loopback device in order to generate an email
notification.
4. Get the vmaild log in the %VSIFAX/Spool/logs folder and have a look at its content.
Below is an example of a vmaild log when it is not possible to connect to the mail server:
10/04 17.22.25.437: vmaild daemon version 6.1
10/04 17.22.25.437: Build info = Windows W32 5 00 586
10/04 17.22.25.437: System = LY-5
10/04 17.22.25.437: Debug mode = on
10/04 17.22.25.437: SMTP server = mail.example.com
10/04 17.22.25.437: -----------------------------------------------------------
10/04 17.22.25.437: fifo: [8] start processing
10/04 17.39.04.781: fifo: [1] send mailfile mime00232aa.txt to [email protected]
10/04 17.39.04.781: Send mime00232aa.txt to [email protected]
10/04 17.39.04.812: Cannot connect: No error
For additional information, the debug flag located in the vsisvr.ini, under the [VMAIL] section, can be set to 2.
Then, the SMTP commands will be shown in the logs and the issue will be easier to troubleshoot.
1. Edit the $VSIFAX/lib/vsisrv.ini file and add debug =2 in the [VMAIL] section.
2. Restart the scheduler to apply the change.
3. Get the vmaild log in the %VSIFAX%/Spool/logs folder and have a look at its content.

The Vmime file
When VSI-FAX attempts to send an email, two files are created and can be retrieved for further troubleshooting:
